Piling work at the site for the 6.5-lakh-sq-ft first IT building called SCK01 at SmartCity Kochi (SCK) is expected to be completed by mid February 2014. SCK01 is going to be the first in a cluster of futuristic buildings planed to house the ICT, media, finance, research & innovation giants from across the world in the 246-acres knowledge hub in Kochi envisaged by the joint venture between Dubai Holdings and the Government of Kerala. As the construction is in progress, SCK is already in talks with a number of global majors for joint ventures while the Dubai-based GEMS Education had already announced their first South Indian campus in SCK offering an international Kindergarten to 12th grade curriculum.

GEMS Education announced today that it will open the first South Indian campus at SmartCity Kochi, offering an international Kindergarten to 12th grade curriculum to students. A signing ceremony held today at SmartCity Dubai office formalized the relationship between GEMS Education and SmartCity Kochi. Founder and Chairman of GEMS Education, Sunny Varkey and Vice Chairman of SmartCity Kochi, Abdullatif AlMulla signed the Heads of Agreement. This agreement marks GEMS Education's commitment to bring world class, smart education to India via its schools.

More than hundred trees including Teaks and Anjilis grown in the 11-acre site at Edachira in Kakkanad where the first IT tower of Smart City Kochi is coming up are being relocated in and around the site.

As the decks have cleared for SmartCity Kochi with the imminent environmental approval for the first phase, the company has geared up for the beginning of construction activities in the first site. The building permit also has been applied for today at the single window facility set up by the state government with the modifications suggested on the advance copy submitted last week. The building permit is expected within two weeks.
